Sevilla beat Man United 2-1 to triumph in the Europa League final

COLOGNE, Germany (AP) – Manchester United has scored an unwanted hat-trick loss in the semi-finals this season after 2–1 in the Europa League against Sevilla on Sunday.

After losing in the last 4 of the FA Cup and the EFL Cup, United failed to convert a series before Luuk de Jong scored the winning goal for Sevilla of the Europa League.

The Spanish club has won the five finals it has reached in the Second Division European Cup competition. Sevilla has a chance to win a sixth record name on Friday in Cologne, while their rival will be Inter Milan or Shakhtar Donetsk, who will play on Monday.

United will take a look at the new English Premier League season next month after a protracted marathon crusade against the coronavirus that saw defender Harry Maguire play 55 games.

“We deserved to leave, but in the end we failed in the semi-finals, for the third time this season,” Maguire told BT Sport. “It means a lot to us, the boys are devastated. We have an intelligent organization of guys who know what it means to play for this club and wasting it is not appropriate. Getting to the semi-finals is not appropriate and we will now have to take a new step.”

United was 3–2 overall across Manchester City in January in a two-match, 3–1 EFL Cup semi-final through Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals in July.

Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou kept his appearance in the semi-finals in 1-1 with tackles from every aspect of the party before De Jong won.

With the match 1-1 and on the way to overtime, Sevilla de Jong’s replacement made the breakthrough in the 78th minute. A centre of Jesus Navas fell very well for the Dutch striker to score his first European goal of the season at close range.

United had taken the lead in the 9th minute with a penalty in a season full of them. Diego Carlos mingled with Marcus Rashford as the United striker had his most sensible shot, then Bruno Fernandes came forward to send the penalty to the most sensitive left corner.

United has won 22 shots in all competitions this season, more than any other club in the five major European leagues. Since Fernandes arrived at the club in January, he has scored eight numbers on the spot.

Fernandes made a leap in his streak after failing for the penalty in the extra time that the quarter-final opposed to Copenhagen. That was enough to beat Sevilla Bounou goalkeeper, who had stored a kick to Raúl Jiménez of Wolverhampton in the past round.

Sevilla tied 17 minutes later with a lightning team play that exposed United’s two sides. A pass from Lucas Ocampos got in the area to left-back Sergio Reguilón, on loan from Real Madrid, to send a perfectly calculated centre for striker Suso to rush down the right wing.

That purpose brought United back to life. Anthony Martial fired a promising shot over the bar before Bounou was forced to analyze hard shots from outside the area through Rashford and Fernandes.

United began the part of the moment with an equally exuberant style, with Bounou forced to save from Martial and other blocked efforts through a desperate defense of Seville. After watching the occasions stopped, United lost some intensity, allowing Sevilla to return to the match and score the winning goal.
