Sevilla have asked La Liga to take action after winger Lucas Ocampos was touched “inappropriately” by a fan in their 2-1 win at Rayo Vallecano, the club said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred 33 minutes into Monday’s match, when a fan punched Ocampos in the back while taking a throw-in. The Argentine turned to protest to the young fan before informing the referee of the incident before the attack resumed.

“We want to express our disgust at this incident,” Sevilla said in a statement.
“Lucas Ocampos is the victim of an obscene and totally out of place act through a local fan. We hope that the appropriate measures defined in the regulations will be taken to prevent such behaviour from falling back on a football pitch, and we have expressed this directly to LaLiga. “
Rayo Vallecano said in a statement that the incident went against their values as a football club and that they were rushing to identify the fans.
“This remote action is the sole responsibility of the fan who carried it out,” the club said in a statement.
“Rayo Vallecano is lately processing the identification of the fan so that, if he is a season ticket holder of the club, the appropriate disciplinary measures are applied in accordance with the internal regulations. “
Ocampos said the league needs to treat the incident “as seriously as they take racism and that kind of thing. “
“You can see what happened in the video,” Ocampos told broadcaster DAZN. “I hope La Liga takes this as seriously as they take racism and that sort of thing. I don’t think all the people at Rayo are like that because they’ve treated us with respect, but he’s a fool.
“I hope it doesn’t happen in other areas, because if this happens in a women’s football match we know what can happen. I kept my calm because I have two daughters, I hope this doesn’t happen to them in the future.
“I hope that the action that has to be taken is taken, and I hope that a fool like this does not stain a set of fans who otherwise behaved very well.”
