The thrilling 90 minutes of the Europa League final tonight, however, allowed Sevilla to take the lead over Inter Milan, to climb the club record.
The first of the two main European events of the weekend took place in Cologne recently.
Before Bayern Munich’s match with PSG in the Champions League final on Sunday night, Inter Milan and Sevilla faced off for the glory of the Europa League.
Both groups, of course, have reserved their position in the RheinEnergieStadion matchup thanks to impressive semi-final victories, albeit in an absolutely different way.
First, a much-contested issue last weekend, however, saw Sevilla take the lead over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United through 2 goals to 1.
And this followed 24 hours later when Inter did a small task to Ukrainian giant Shakhtar Donetsk, heading for a 5-0 win.

As such, tonight a relationship between two impressive teams was widely predicted.
And when everything is said and done, that’s exactly what will happen.
The tone of the night set in the first five minutes, when an explosion through Romelu Lukaku saw the mistakey Belgian knocking down the Belgian in the Seville area, which resulted in a penalty.
Lukaku himself intervened to dismiss the resulting kick with minimal annoyance, making 11 consecutive Europa League appearances in which the Belgian discovered the net.

Only 7 minutes later, however, Sevilla returns.
A glorious ball from the right, courtesy of Jesus Navas, saw Luuk de Jong bend over to nod magnificently.
And, with 33 minutes on the clock, De Jong returns.
After a single free kick at the time of the pole, Sevilla’s goalscorer against Manchester United climbed the top, leading a loop effort beyond the triumph of the helpless Samir Handanovic in the goal of the inter.
The game developed at a frenetic pace, so it’s no wonder when Antonio Conte’s nerazzurri temporarily reached the level.
A kick stop from Marcelo Brozovic this time was fulfilled through the arrival of Diego Godín, who hit home the third head of the night to organize a tense half.

And the forty-five minutes that followed, unsurprisingly, not as hectic as those that preceded them, nevertheless produced a very important winner.
Minutes after losing the opportunity to put Inter in front in a head-to-head with Yassine Bounou, Romelu Lukaku’s anguish worsened at the end.
A corner in the Serie A area saw Diego Carlos, a guy who deserved to be sent off for his foul on Lukaku in the first five minutes, directing a motorcycle kick towards goal.
And, with the ball widely directed, Inter’s Belgian attacker pulled out a leg, redirecting the effort to the roof of his own net.

Conte’s men sought a draw for the remaining 20 minutes of the match, but when the final whistle sounded, Sevilla emerged victorious and won the club’s fourth name in the Europa League in seven years.
