Countries are encouraged to invest billions of pounds in nature on a global subsidized crusade through Sir David Attenborough.
Conservation organization Fauna and Flora International (FFI) is launching the Our One Home campaign, calling on governments and companies to prioritize the coverage and recovery of nature and wildlife.
To mark the launch, FFI coordinated a signed letter through more than 110 conservation teams from more than 40 countries to the UN Secretary-General, asking countries to devoting an initial $500 billion (390 billion pounds) to maintain nature and save Wave of Extinctions.
The crusade supported through Sir David, with celebrities such as Dame Judi Dench, Stephen Fry, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Giles Clark and James Wong.
Sir David, Vice President of FFI, said: “Our herbal world is under greater pressure now than at any time in human history, and the long term of the entire planet, on which we depend on us, is in grave danger. .
“We still have the opportunity to face the catastrophic loss of biodiversity, time is running out.
“There is an urgent need for world leaders and global corporations to recognize the critical importance of nature, invest in nature, and join a great collective effort to maintain it. “
Dame Judi said: “Around the world, many species and herbal resources are threatened by the devastating effects of climate replacement and we cannot be complacent.
“As vice president of FFI, I am so proud of this much-needed crusade to bring investments to local conservation organizations in the most productive position to provide lasting replacement to our herbal world.
The crusade occurs when the UN organizes a biodiversity summit aimed at reversing the crisis facing nature, with one million endangered species and declining populations by more than two-thirds on average since 1970.
The UN recently warned that the world had achieved any of the targets agreed a decade ago to stop and oppose the decline of biodiversity (plants, animals and other organisms on Earth) until the 2020 deadline.
The World Economic Forum estimates that herbs worldwide are worth $125 trillion (97 trillion pounds) for the economy, but FFI said that instead of being valued and protected, it is being destroyed.
FFI’s Our One Home crusade requires an annual investment commitment of US$500 billion, led by governments and added consistently with sonal organizations, and a us$50 billion build-up consistent with the year (39 billion pounds) to help local conservation organizations repair and protect nature. .
The letter from FFI says the scale of investment is “critical” to long-term nature recovery and faster covid-19 relief, where cuts along the front line have opened the door to destructive activities for the environment.
And more investment will have to be located at the base and local communities where it will be used most effectively.
The letter also calls for adjustments to investment flows, adding increased spending on foreign conservation assistance and relief on fossil fuel subsidies for nature.
Mark Rose, Managing Director of Fauna and Flora International, said: “The global herbal is for human and economic health, yet it is under immense pressure and continues to have insufficient funding.
“UN member states will have to take the lead in overcoming this crisis and putting investment in the hands of those who are more productive and able to use it: local conservation organizations that see first-hand the demanding situations facing the herbal world and have the wisdom to make genuine change.
