Slavia Praha coach Jindrich Trpisovsky boldly declared that his team would beat AC Milan in the second leg and has reason to be positive after last night’s performance.
The fact that Milan scored 4 goals, won the match and left the field not very satisfied says a lot about how the process unfolded, especially after the red card in the 30th minute for Slavia.
Olivier Giroud headed in the opener, then Doudera equalised in front of the San Siro crowd, but Tijjani Reijnders and Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored in quick succession before the break to give the Rossoneri a 3-1 lead at half-time.
It looked like the floodgates had opened, but Schranz then halved the deficit for the Czech side, who began to fight hard to equalise, and right at the end, a touch from Christian Pulisic gave Milan some relief and the match ended 4-2.
Trpisovsky spoke in his post-match press conference at San Siro and spoke of his performance being very encouraging given the circumstances, with MilanNews relaying his comments.
Anything about the result?
“There’s a chance to come back, we’re going to try harder at home. In the first 25 minutes it was a smart game, we did even better than Milan. Then, after the red card, the game changed. Without the sending-off, the game would have been much more intense.
“Physically we were well prepared, we even scored goals when a player was down. We lost 4-2, at home we can do anything better, maybe make up for the deficit. I’m sure we’re going to win at home.
Do you agree with deportation?
“I haven’t noticed the replay yet, but if he was sent off, he was kicked out. So I’m not entirely convinced, even though I’m not the arbiter.
Disappointed by the fourth goal?
“I’m sorry we couldn’t bet more with 11 men, I think there would be a different outcome. After that, I’m satisfied anyway, because my players didn’t play badly.
“Without a player, patterns change. For the 4th, I regret the goal. We won’t forget the 4 goals we conceded and the two we scored.
Yesterday you gave a lot of praise in Milan, were you a bit disappointed?
“What I said about Milan is also valid today. Today’s performance probably would have been less sensational, however, there are players who perform based on how their opponents play. If we had defended worse, the result for us could also simply have been worse.
“Milan are not brilliant today, but Milan didn’t disappoint me. The successes in Milan’s history are brilliant. What my players found today at Milan is in line with what we know.
Convinced to be home?
“I’m very convinced, or super convinced, that with such a smart team and perfect fans, with a full stadium in Prague, we will be even better prepared at home.
“It’s going to be a tough game. I don’t feel disconnected at all. I am convinced that overcoming it is possible, we are sure of ourselves and our strengths. For us, it would be fantastic if that happened.
