DOVER, Delaware (AP) – Zane Smith, the NASCAR Truck Series race at Dover International Speedway on Friday night.
Smith walked away from the 21st Chevrolet in a late reboot to win for the moment in three races. Smith, 21, won in Michigan to win one of the 10 playoffs.
“This is the ultimate laughing race I’ve had in my career,” Smith said.
Smith pushed back Matt Crafton and Brett Moffitt to take the checkered flag in front of the empty stands. The Monster Mile is scheduled to host an Xfinity Series and Cup Series race on Saturday and Sunday.
Todd Gilliland and Ben Rhodes completed the five most sensible. Gilliland finished fourth in the five most sensitive of the season and tenth and last in the points-based playoffs.
“We’ll have to have those smart days,” Gilliland said.
Smith punched the referee and waved the plating flag before hitting it in the back of the truck to celebrate his victory moment in 14 career runs.
“Dude, I need this trophy so much,” Smith said of the Miles the Monster trophy. “I know there’s Busch Light in victory row. I’m 21 now. I wish you a margarita.
Smith earned $50,000 in bonuses for the Triple Truck Challenge victory.
Smith turned 21 in June. Smith, who drives for GMS Racing, is much calmer than him in Michigan when he was moved to talk about his victory.
Moffitt won in the final stretch and chose the internal track for the final reboot. He was not yet painted, he settled for his third most sensible five of the season.
“At that point, you have to threaten a victory,” said Moffitt, who led 50 laps. “In the end, I didn’t have a smart throw in the back and the 21 yes.”
Smith, Sheldon Creed, Grant Enfinger, Austin Hill and Crafton are locked up in the playoffs. Other races of the season include Gateway (August 30), Darlington (September 6) and Richmond (September 10).
