LISBON – Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said his appearance lost 3–1 to Olympique Lyonnais to leave the Champions League in the quarter-finals because they lacked the necessary perfection in European competition.
The City fell on the hit of Maxwel Cornet in a careless first half and, although they looked like their same user after the break and tied through Kevin de Bruyne, they were knocked down through two shots of Moussa Dembele, sandwiched between an incredible blow from Raheem. Sterling.
“That’s what it is and I hope one day we’ll get over that gap,” Guardiola told BT Sport after a fourth consecutive Champions League loss to City.
“We fought in the first 25 minutes, but in the part of the moment we felt free, we were there and I felt like we were bigger than them, but we have to be the best at this festival and we weren’t.”
Guardiola complained about Lyon’s moment goal, which survived a var review after a possible lack by Dembélé over the City Aymeric Laporte’s defence.
“I don’t know, I don’t need to communicate those cases because I happen to complain or look for excuses. We went out, I already had the feeling that we were amazing, but we made mistakes. in the boxes at key moments.
Guardiola also took strong action against Sterling’s astonishing defeat, which would have led the score to 2-2 and temporarily punished through Dembélé’s momently purpose which was the fatal blow.
“This moment sums up this festival well, we had to match and after fitting the 3rd goal. It’s this festival, you have to be perfect.
