Soccer-Flamengo wins first new trainer Domenec Torrent

CURITIBA – Defending Brazilian champion Flamengo claimed his first win on Saturday under new coach Domenec Torrent, beating Coritiba 1-0 at an empty Couto Pereira stadium in the southern city of Curitiba.

The victory eased the tension of Torrent, a former assistant to Pep Guardiola, whose team had lost his first two league games of the season and gave the impression of being a shadow of his electrifying personality last season under the leadership of Portuguese Jorge Jesús.

Giorgian De Arrascaeta scored the goal of the match in the 27th minute after a shot by Gabriel Barbosa to the penalty domain hit the Uruguayan, who hit the ball in the net.

After half-time, Coritiba midfielder René Junior ejected after receiving a yellow card for a moment, while Flamengo had a headbutt of Pedro denied by the VAR for offside.

It is coritiba’s 3rd consecutive defeat, anchored in the rear of the Brazilian championship.

Flamengo will now face Gremio at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, while Coritiba will travel to Sao Paulo to face the Corinthians on the same day (Report through Gabriel Araujo; Editing through Daniel Wallis).
