Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown that Harry Maguire will continue as the club’s captain for the new season.
Maguire received a 21-month suspended criminal sentence last month after being convicted of assaulting a police officer, a juror, resisting arrest and corruption in an incident in Mykonos.
He denied the crimes and appealed. The appeal overturns the verdict and Maguire has no history of criminals until a full retrial.
“He treated it very well and, of course, I’ll be there for him,” Solskjaer told United’s official website.
“He’s going to be our captain. We’ll just let Harry and his other people and the procedure be executed. “
Maguire got rid of the England national team for last week’s League of Nations double against Iceland and Denmark.
Solskjaer said: “Of course Harry, as you said, had a difficult summer. He had a long break.
“He separated from the others, as we gave him a few more days and then he came back and looked good.
“To me, he is a superior and absolute human being, and he has been a positive type with the right values. So I hope we can see Harry perform in the best way.
England’s manager, Gareth Southgate, plans to bring Maguire back to the England squad next month for the friendly with Wales and the League of Nations of Belgium and Denmark.
Southgate first included Maguire in his team for the Icelandic and Denmark matches, but then withdrew him a few hours after the conclusion of his test at Syros.
Maguire left for Mykonos after the end of United’s season with a European League semi-final loss to Sevilla in Cologne.
Maguire, 27, the world’s top defender after joining United from Leicester for 80 million pounds in August 2019.
He appointed United captain in January after Ashley Young left for Inter Milan.
Maguire played every minute of United’s 38-match Premier League campaign, which fit the first outfielder to do so for the club since 1995.
