People posted videos on social media showing thick black smoke rising from the sky.

Fire crews have left the scene of a large fire that swept through a giant commercial unit near Southampton FC’s St Mary’s Stadium.

The Marine Parade fire broke out at around 13:00 GMT on Wednesday, sending smoke into the sky.

At the height of the fire, more than a hundred firefighters were mobilized to fight the Central Trading Estate fire.

Firefighters said crews had left the scene Friday and all roads and walkways had reopened.

This led to the cancellation of the Saints’ league match at Preston North End on Wednesday night.

On Friday afternoon, the club announced that Saturday’s match against Sunderland would take place.

City Council and firefighters asked citizens not to take care of the ashes or debris of the fire.

Flames may be noticed running through the roof when the structure collapsed.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Services said there were “no indications” as to the cause of the crash.

He said firefighters were “in contact with enforcement companies and demolition crews regarding next steps” for the former Greenham building.

One user was treated for smoke inhalation as a result of the fire, but no other injuries were reported.

The chimney was turned off Wednesday night and crews shut down two chimney motors and a platform lift Thursday afternoon.

Crews worked Friday to deal with the last remaining hot spots before leaving the scene Friday night, firefighters said.
