Southampton’s league match against Preston North End was postponed after a fire broke out near St Mary’s Stadium.
The fire broke out in the Marine Parade commercial sets near Southampton Stadium shortly after 13:00 GMT on Wednesday.
The two clubs, along with the English football league, announced that the match had been postponed until 4:05 p. m. after consulting with authorities.
Southampton showed the resolution to postpone the event in a document that said: “The resolution was taken after consultation with the local government and emergency facilities following a main fire broke out at a building next to the site of St Mary’s stadium today. “
“The incident has caused significant disruption in the area, with roads around the stadium still closed as firefighters continue to manage the situation.

“We are grateful for the cooperation of Preston and the EFL, and while we appreciate the sadness fans might feel, we hope they understand the need to prioritise the protection of fans and any of the clubs.
“The event will be postponed to a new date, to be announced in due course, and all tickets for tonight’s event will be valid for the rescheduled event. “

Preston added that they would assess the potential payment of the enthusiasts who travelled to Southampton for the game.
“The club would like to thank the helpers who have undertaken the long adventure to help the team and wish them all a safe adventure at home,” Preston said. “An announcement regarding potential payment arrangements for traveling fans will be made on Thursday. “
