Shocking news has shown black smoke billowing from a building just metres from St Mary’s football stadium in Southampton.
The plume of smoke is believed to have originated from the former Greenhams building in Southampton’s central shopping area, with a cordon set up through emergency services.
Roads surrounding the domain were closed and nearby citizens were asked to keep windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke from the chimney that erupted shortly after 1 p. m.
Drivers have been pleaded with to come to the domain “to allow emergency vehicle traffic,” according to Hampshire Fire Service.
Southampton FC will face Preston at the stadium in a league match that kicks off in a few hours at 7. 45pm.

It’s unclear if the adjustment will be canceled.
Eight fire engines, two aerial painting rigs and “other specialized vehicles” are currently at the site, with the government using a loudspeaker to signal people to leave the site.
Police are also on site to enforce road closures and monitor the safety of the area.
The BBC reports that the roof of the building collapsed and flames were coming out of the exploded windows.
