It’s official, Southampton will face Burnley in the 4th round of the FA Cup on 8th February at St. Mary’s.
It has been quite a challenging season for Southampton so far. Already out of the EFL Cup, while on the verge of relegation in the Premier League, there have been more problems for them than positives.
But here is an attractive statistic whose saints can rejoice.
Outside the Premier League, Southampton have won an entire game, as opposed to Liverpool. This includes plentiful victories, against Everton, Stoke City and the FA Cup win over Swansea.
Plus, the Saints still have a chance to have their hands covered this season. After an impressive 3-0 victory against Swansea, Southampton reached 4th in the FA Cup with their name hopes.
As per Southampton’s official website, the Saints have been drawn with Burnley for the 4th round FA Cup fixture on 8th February. Further, the tie is scheduled at St. Mary’s, with the Saints continuing their FA Cup run at home.
Interestingly, in recent years, Southampton has had an upper hand over Burnley at home. Having won a fixture 3-2, while drawing another 2-2, they have not lost at home against the Clarets since February 2020.
But while the merit of the house is obviously a blessing to Southampton, it may not be this time.
Until the much-anticipated FA Cup match, Southampton are said to face a number of tough opponents, who could worsen their form.
If that were not enough, the coach Ivan Juric could even have to align the Saints without Tyler Dibling. After being replaced against Manchester United, the scope of the prodigy ankle lesion is still unknown.
Obviously, the next few weeks will have a massive say in who earns a merit in the party. For now, let’s hope Southampton can back up their recent FA Cup functionality against Burnley.
