Southampton has signed Royal Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu on a four-year contract for 12 million euros (10.9 million pounds).
According to reports, the central defence repurchase clause was activated through the Saints and the arrival of the 21-year-old at the Premier League club has now been demonstrated after all non-public agreements have been made.
News of the Premier League play has included hypotheses about the Ghanaian defender’s long history this summer with several clubs connected to an agreement.
A report last month at The AS Daily stated that Rennes had hoped to point out the player, but Salisu’s preference for a season in the Premier League because he speaks English, likes the taste of the game and also presents a more horny economic package.
“It’s a great feeling to be a Southampton player. I am very pleased to be part of the club and look forward to starting here,” Salisu told the club’s official website.
“Southampton is a club with a lot of history in the progression of young players, so it’s a very smart club for me to expand my skills and be very knowledgeable as a young player.
“I know the team expects a lot from me and I’ll follow up to give the team everything I can.”
The head of the Saints, Ralph Hasenh-ttl, said: “This is a vital signing for us. Mohammed is a player who adapts well to our profile. He is young and has a lot of potential, but he is also the one who has the qualities to come and helps the team as soon as he knows how we play.
“I like what I’ve noticed about him so far in his matches with Valladolid. He’s strong defensively, he’s calm with the ball, which is vital in our team, and he also has a smart speed.”
“I think it will have good compatibility with us and it will be a smart position for him to further expand his game. We have smart central defenders here and that will be a smart choice for us.”
