Southampton has finished signing Mohammed Salisu’s 10.9 million pounds from Real Valladolid.
The Ghanaian central has signed a four-year contract at St Mary’s, the time of the club’s arrival in the summer after Kyle Walker-Peters definitively replaced Tottenham.
Ralph Hasenhuttl praised Salisu, 21, as a promising defender as the Saints continued their reconstruction after ascending to midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Tottenham for 20 million pounds.
Salisu moved to Valladolid from Ghana in 2017, which was temporarily normal in the first team. Now the head of the Saints, Hasenhuttl, expects it to shine in the Premier League.
“It’s a signing for us, Mohammed is a player who fits our profile,” said Southampton coach Hasenhuttl.
“He’s young and has wonderful potential, but he’s also the one who has the qualities to come and help the team as soon as he knows how we play.”
It’s Salisu!

“I like what I’ve noticed about him so far in his matches with Valladolid. He’s strong defensively, he’s calm with the ball, which is vital in our team, and he also has a smart speed.”
“I think it will have good compatibility with us and it will be a smart position for him to further expand his game. We have smart central defenders here and that will be a smart choice for us.”
Salisu revealed that Southampton’s record of proposing young players has informed them of their resolve to join the club.
“It’s a very smart feeling to be a Southampton player. I’m very pleased to be part of the club and I can’t wait to start here,” Salisu said.
“Southampton is a club with a lot of history in the progression of young players, so it’s a very smart club for me to expand my skills and be very knowledgeable as a young player.
“I know the team expects a lot from me and I’ll follow up to give the team everything I can.”
