Juventus fly to England to close a deal for Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian giants are hoping to reach a loan deal with an option to buy for £35m this summer. Alcaraz only joined the Saints for £12m from Racing Club last January but now needs to leave the championship for Juventus. Juventus have booked a medical in London and agreed terms for the player affectionately known as ‘Charly’ on the south coast. It will be Juve who fill the void left in midfield by the absence of Paul Pogba.
Southampton’s defeat is mitigated after Welsh foreigner David Brooks was loaned out for the rest of the season from Bournemouth this week.
Both south coast clubs showed the move on Tuesday night, with Wales largely following Cherries team-mate Joe Rothwell in moving to St Mary’s in the existing window.
Brooks, 26, was diagnosed with level 2 Hodgkin lymphoma in 2021 but has since been given the green light and returned to action with Bournemouth last March.
He has controlled just two Premier League starts under Andoni Iraola this season and will now join the Saints as they push for a quick return to the Premier League.
