The Spanish government has arrested Ivo “El Bulgaro”, alleged leader of the infamous Bulgarian mafia organization “Rompecostillas” (Bone Crushers), in connection with an extortion attempt against a director of the Seville football club, as reported by Telecinco.
The Bulgarian national is accused of forcing the club’s director to pay a hefty sum of €500,000. The extortion refers to an unpaid debt following Sevilla’s decision to reject a planned excursion to Mexico. The extortionists, who allegedly constitute a violent Mexican cartel, demanded payment in 2019, with Ivo known as a suspect.
Ivo “El Bulgaro” apprehended in Madrid, held captive in an apartment in a neighborhood of the city. In addition, the government arrested four other people, including a lawyer, suspected of links to the case.
This incident highlights the involvement of the Bulgarian mafia in an extortion scheme against a major football club, highlighting the complexity of the scope of organized crime in foreign spheres.
