Spencer Rattler has noticed it all in Oklahoma and South Carolina. The New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback faced some of the most sensible systems in the country before turning pro in this year’s NFL Draft, but some conflicting parties stand out above the rest. He fondly remembers some historic victories and can only shake his head sadly at some opportunities that slipped away from him and his teammates.
Rattler reflected on his school football career and the most challenging environments he faces in a recent video with the Saints’ social media team. Here are their picks for the five most challenging (and noisy) places to visit:
“I have to put in Florida,” Rattler began. “Florida is a tough position to play in. We didn’t win that game, it’s a tough game. “
Rattler played Florida at home, on the road and at an unbiased site in the 2020 Cotton Bowl, winning two of three. But he says “The Swamp” is different. Having 88,000 Gator enthusiasts “bite” you in particular is a unique experience. South Carolina crushed in that 2022 assembly by an unbalanced 38-6 margin.
Rattler’s hardest road trip?It was at the Neyland Stadium in Knoxville: “Tennessee at night. They ran out of power, they flew planes everywhere. A pretty crazy game. “
South Carolina stayed close from the start, even holding an early lead until the Volunteers scored from 2 yards out with 42 seconds left in the first quarter. Then all Tennessee. The Vols cruised to victory with a box goal, a pick-six over Rattler and a few touchdowns to earn a 41-20 landslide victory.
“We played Georgia at noon, between the fences. We beat them, but they beat us. It was a tough position to play in,” Rattler said.
The Bulldogs lived up to their reputation when Rattler’s team in South Carolina visited them in 2023. He held just 256 passing yards and threw more interceptions (2) than touchdowns (1) in a lopsided 24-14 road loss.
It’s a win Rattler is pleased with, after beating an in-state rival: “You know, we beat them (at) home. We ended a 40-game winning streak. It’s also a difficult position to play at midday, we won it. “one.
The unseeded Gamecocks won by the narrowest margin – 31-30. Rattler intercepted twice, but still threw for 360 yards with two much-needed landing passes in addition to a landing. His long-time teammate Bryan Bresee right in front of him.
“And then let’s go back to the Big 12,” Rattler said. K-State. Pretty good atmosphere, atmosphere, but we won that game too. ”
Rattler visited the Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium in 2021 with Oklahoma and it turned out to be a shootout. The Sooners cruised to a 37-31 victory after Rattler threw for 243 passing yards after completing 22 of 25 attempts. He threw two touchdown passes but also threw an interception and gained 24 yards and 8 carries. Lincoln Riley’s defense, coordinated through Alex Grinch, gave up 420 yards of offense to the Wildcats.
