The vandans attacked a football club in Huyton 24 hours after the contractors finished renovating their grounds.

Over the weekend, vandans demolished fences at Knowsley Lane field in Knowsley South FC as part of a 1.2 million pound regeneration project.

They broke into a transport container used at the club to buy equipment, fleeing with targets and a line marker.

Describing the vandans as “dumb idiots,” club secretary Mike Gibbons said: “Contractors left the site on Friday afternoon and within 24 hours of leaving the site they destroyed it.

“You wonder, why do we bother?”

The fence had been erected over the past 4 weeks as a component of broader plans for sports facilities in the playgrounds of Lord Derby Memorial.

Co-financed in component through contributions from real estate developer Bellway as a condition of the assignment structure near Earlsfield Park, the assignment also includes improved drainage, replanting and, later in the year, the structure of a new pavilion.

Gibbons told ECHO that the fence would be replaced, but said he knew who would pay for the job, as the club had already lost 12,000 euros this year due to the pandemic.

He said: “Once it’s operational, we’ll be in charge of any additional vandalism.”

Last weekend, another football club in the net attacked through vandans, and Lower Breck FC was the victim of arson at a 50-seat stand on its grounds at Anfield.

Gibbons said: “It’s very frustrating. We are all volunteers who seek to create a bigger society for our children, but there are other people who seek to ruin it.”

Merseyside police said officials went to Knowsley South FC and spoke to the staff to reassure them, and Gibbons suggested others come forward if they knew who was responsible.
