Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their quest for goals in other positions ahead of the summer transfer window, with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, a long-term target, back in the spotlight.
After following Gallagher’s progress since last summer, Spurs could finally secure the England midfielder, despite Newcastle United’s festival.
Transfer expert Dean Jones suggests Gallagher’s preference to remain in London could give Tottenham an edge over Newcastle in negotiations, despite past doubts over his price.
Gallagher’s reluctance to leave Chelsea stems from his deep ties to the club and family concerns, which makes moving to another London-based club more attractive if he leaves Stamford Bridge.
Jones questions Tottenham’s appeal to Gallagher, given his home prestige and his potential to play the time with Angel Postecoglou.
He gives me sport:
“There are new links between Conor Gallagher and Newcastle, and I’m not surprised they’re interested, but I don’t know how far I’d expect him to go. “
From what I’ve heard, he can’t even think about it now, because he just doesn’t need this to happen.
“But if he leaves Chelsea, I’ve heard that getting so far away from his family circle wouldn’t be ideal. “
“I think some other club in London could work better, and we know Spurs are smart and being a local club would suit them. “
“It’s still a matter of waiting because if Pochettino ends up staying beyond this season, he would be very angry if Gallagher was sold.
With Gallagher’s contract set to expire in less than 15 months and no extension in sight, Tottenham could simply seize the stage and secure the coveted midfielder.
As negotiations progress, Tottenham remains a destination for Gallagher due to its location and prospects for career advancement.
