St. Johns football players were having dinner with their team after Thursday practice when coach Mike Morgan won a call he wanted him not to have to answer.
He said athletic director David Bradshaw told him they had to cancel their Friday night football game as opposed to Miami due to exposure to a user with COVID-19. It would have been St. Louis’ first house game. Johns, and it would have come, a week after Morgan overca overcavised Paul Moro as the state’s all-time leader with 337.
The exhibition canceled all activities at St. Johns and resulted in the final on Friday. They sent a letter from management to the community, saying they will have to figure out how to run it on Monday.
A week earlier, at Holbrook, the St. Johns carried Morgan on his shoulders after setting the state record for all-time top wins.

The St. Johns women’s soccer team had to cancel Thursday night’s game opposite Lakeside Blue Ridge. Two more games of the regular season (27-29 October) are scheduled.
Morgan stated that none of his players had symptoms of COVID-19. He said he’ll see how his team can continue next week.

St. Johns (1-1), a 2A team, played two games earlier in Week Five of the Arizona Inter-School Association’s football schedule.
He is scheduled to play at the Globe on October 30, at the house opposite Gilbert Arete Prep on November 6 and at home on November 13 as opposed to Gilbert San Tan Charter before the playoffs begin.
“We’re about to play only three games this season,” Morgan said.
St. Johns is the eighth Arizona high school team this week to have to cancel games due to coronavirus.
The others are Mesa Desert Ridge, Goodyear Millennium, Buckeye Verrado, Phoenix Arizona Lutheran, Phoenix Barry Goldwater, Wellton Antelope and Scottsdale Desert Mountain.
Phoenix North Pointe Prep had to cancel his game opposite Scottsdale Prep, but coach Jason Shaw said it “due to the low number of injuries. “
“The COVID pandemic has led us to box between 12 and 14 players consistent with the game,” Shaw added. “However, our team will be healthy by next week opposing Veritas. “
