Stephen Kenny’s team hosts Switzerland-based FC Vaduz tonight in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the Conference League.
The Pats have had their fair share of struggles this season, coming into tonight’s game in seventh position in the league, just six points clear of the relegation zone, with Dundalk and Bohemians having fewer games than Kenny’s team. They even lost their FAI Cup last weekend, exiting the festival at the hands of Derry City.
The team founded in Inchicore hopes to catch up with Vaduz after having begun its crusade in the Swiss second division last Friday with a goalless draw against Stade Nyonnais. They currently play in the Swiss Challenge League, despite being a team founded in Liechtenstein. Vaduz is unique because it represents its national organization (Lichtenstein) in the UEFA Europa Conference League when it wins the national cup, while playing in some other country’s league (Switzerland). This is because Liechtenstein does not organize its own league.
The winner of this tie will face either Maccabi Haifa of Israel or FC Sabah of Azerbaijan in the third qualifying round.
Here’s everything you want to know about tonight’s clash:
