On Thursday, the St. Petersburg City Council voted to make adjustments to zoning regulations that would allow for more multi-unit units.
The organization’s leaders and citizens of St. Petersburg say there is a desperate desire to create more available housing by adding duplexes here in St. Pete.
“All my friends complain that ‘even if they gave me the 20 percent down payment, I wouldn’t repay the space loan and that’s a scary idea for me,'” said Sarah Duncan, a St. Petersburg resident. . resident.
Duncan says it’s very difficult to find fairly expensive accommodation in the area.
“Now I’ve found out you were beaten on a $200,000 offer and that crushes you,” Duncan said.
Now, the city of St. Petersburg is running to solve this problem. On Thursday, the St. Petersburg City Council voted to replace zoning regulations to allow more single-mass multi-unit housing in parts of St. Petersburg. Pete, creating opportunities for duplex, triplex and quadriplex.
“We’re really pleased to see this touted as a measure for housing affordability going forward,” Brandes said.
Jillian Bandes belongs to an organization called “Yes In My Back Yard – St. Pete”. He says he’s been pushing him for years.
“There is now strong knowledge indicating that this affects low- and middle-income housing, as well as the homeless,” Bandes said.
She says St. Petersburg’s housing crisis wants everything you can get.
“We want around 1,500 games a year to keep up with the existing population growth. We already produce some of that,” Bandes said.
Many existing citizens are concerned that increased housing availability may create more parking disruption and congestion throughout St. Pete.
But Bandes says his goal has been to help others who need a place to live.
“Maybe you can only have two sets in one building, some other unit in another building. It just allows for a lot of flexibility,” Bandes said.
Duncan says it’s vital to have housing so families don’t have to move.
“School is a big problem. Children get used to their environment. They can walk. They feel intimidated or scared in a new place,” Duncan said.
