Greater Manchester branches of the Britannia hotel chain have won many scathing complaints from disgruntled travelers over the years.
Used condoms, unreliable stains and dirty rooms are part of the series of court cases brought by visitors staying at one of the city’s five Britannia hotels.
This week revealed that the hotel chain had been ranked as the worst in the UK through customer regulator Which?- for the eighth consecutive year.
The company held the last position in a survey of 4,000 customers, as UV lamps showed stained towels, damaged glass and hair when researchers at Which? They visited Folkestone Britannia, also known as Grand Burstin, as part of a separate survey on Hotel Hygiene.
Additional testing revealed that the surfaces had not been cleaned very well between stays, The Mirror reports.
After which? “We are fully committed to providing an environment for visitors. So far we have spent around £ 2 million on Covid-19 precautions, but we settle that there is still a long way to go. “
We’ve had a look at what other people have to say about his remains at the Britannia hotels in Manchester, as well as what the hotel claims to offer.
The Manchester Evening News has contacted Britannia Hotels regarding the highest number of negative TripAdvisor reviews related to its Manchester hotels, but they have not yet responded to our request for feedback.
Here are some of the shocking, and recent reviews of The Britannia Hotels in Manchester, where expectations didn’t fit the reality:
This Tib Street hotel has an average of two stars on TripAdvisor and an overall rating of “mediocre”.
Websites say: “Located in Manchester city centre, the Hotel Britannia Sachas is perfectly close to all the action of this bustling city.
“The hotel has a Spindles leisure and wellness club, where, for a small fee, visitors can access the heated indoor pool, gym, sauna and steam room. The hotel offers spacious rooms with en suite bathrooms, with tray/tea maker, TV, telephone and hairdryer. “
“There’s a used condom on the floor. . . “
Critic Jonathan S shared a photo of a used condom and discovered in this hotel room.
He wrote: “I can only recommend this hotel ever. Not only is it unreasonable and deteriorated, but it’s probably dirty.
“Some examples of the gravity of this hotel: the balcony is full of used beer cans that are bleached in the sun; obviously they are there for a long time There is a condom used on the floor (fortunately, I discovered this before the children – see photo attached)
“There’s also a couple of women’s underwear (big), still left on the floor. Clearly the bathroom has not been cleaned for long.
“The windows are so dirty that it is almost to see through them, etc. Avoid them at all costs. “
“Nice place to stay”
Marie M wrote a review after her in January, revealing cuts toenails on the floor, cigarette butts thrown into the room and stained bedding.
She wrote: “This hotel is the worst I have ever stayed at. Very old, filthy to say the least. The community itself sounded the alarm as soon as we arrived at the hotel. The side streets were full of drugs. Very intimidating. “
“The front of the hotel looked decent, not as beautiful as the picture showed, but we thought it might be nicer inside. We made a mistake. We checked in, there is no indication of the address of our rooms. The elevator is desirable for the doors to open and close, a woman in the elevator drove them in front of each other and we left.
“As soon as we got up, the smell of grass struck us. We were asked if we wanted to be non-smokers. We said yes like none of us, but I think almost every single room on this floor smoked and joints. The cleanliness is vile. “
“There’s hair stuck in the bathroom”
Rachel C traveled for the night, but disappointed with the experience. She wrote: “When we arrived, there were other people smoking grass outdoors no matter the safety in the reception room. Being in front of the elevator. “
“The elevator doesn’t work. I went up the stairs with a suitcase, which is a problem. We arrived in our room and it stinked of moisture, we went to the bathroom and there is hair stuck in the bathroom. The bed is not safe,” so two of us share only one, unstable wooden bedside.
“The bed was squeaking a lot. The windows were damp and we couldn’t close it. The ATM swallowed our cash twice. I wouldn’t get ahead of him at all and, in fact, I probably wouldn’t come back. “formed. “
The Grade II indexed hotel has a two-star TripAdvisor score and a general part, ranging from mediocre to medium.
Britannia’s online page reads: “The Britannia Manchester Hotel is a very good Grade II indexed construction in central Manchester. With its majestic architecture, solid iron staircase and huge chandelier, it’s a wonderful selection for an affordable manchester hotel. “
He adds: “The hotel offers spacious en suite rooms with tray/tea maker, telephone, TV and hairdryer. Wi-Fi is available in the usual spaces and the hotel has a 24-hour front desk service. “
“It was made up of the magnificent sight of two drug addicts banging in front of my window. “
Andrea reviewed the Manchester hotel in February on TripAdvisor after being dissatisfied with her stay. He complained about the guests at the party, a health napkin spent in the bathroom and other people drugged outside.
She wrote: “You can’t open the windows, the amazing smells, the tasteless, dry, inedible breakfast, addicts and homeless people also stay here through the forums that scream and separate all night, you might not sleep because of all the noise. in the other rooms and hallways, the bed is hard as nails, the bathrooms look like disabled bathrooms at McDonald’s, the floor of my room was not well sucked in and there was someone else’s hair everywhere.
“I discovered a sanitary towel used in the bathroom trash can, walls stained with dark yellow and filthy and with a very ugly taste in art. Not even (sic) what a three-star hotel is like. It’s the beautiful view of two junkies banging in front of my window. “
‘Poo in the bathroom’
Amy F of Manchester said: “We booked this hotel because it was a 15 minute walk from a concert me and my other present part. The room was dirty and I had what I can only describe as poop in the bathtub.
“The furniture was stained and smelled of moisture. The bed is definitely not made for other people over 1. 50 meters and would be bigger if you planned to sleep alone as there is virtually no space. The positive thing is that the front is surely lovely and a shame that the hotel wants repairs. “
”Dirty sheets, grime and un emptied toilets’
T Jackson rated the hotel on TripAdvisor in July 2020 and promised never to come back again after his experience.
They wrote: “I told them there were no more double rooms (although I had booked and paid for one before arriving at the hotel).
“I said that at that moment I could give myself a double bed and that I would be approached by the beds before I entered and that they would give me a loose late check. I paid and it’s disgusting.
“Without bedding, dirty sheets still on the mattress, part of a cup of water left in the kettle, dirt and empty bathrooms. I was angry to say the least and the manager (of all) had the audacity to turn my cheek and the worst attitude I have ever had of a staff member in an establishment.
“Obviously, this room has been cleaned” is that your excuse? She discovers a new room and tells us to check it out ourselves, that she will check it out!
“When we did the check-out at 12:50, the janitor told us we were late and said, “We’re going to let things slip away this time. “He’s the same guy who told me he could have slowed me off. for disorders and then he argued with me about the fact that he wasn’t in the formula (shouldn’t he have put it himself)
“And saying ‘this time’ as if I was NEVER coming back made me laugh. The worst pleasure of my life. “
Located in the thriving village of Hale, The Ashley has a score of two on TripAdvisor, which is “mediocre”.
The hotel’s online page reads: “The Britannia Ashley Hotel is located in the prosperous village of Hale, Cheshire, and is the local bowling alley. The hotel offers modern rooms, all with attached bathroom, trays/kettles and TVs. Some rooms also the ball field. “
“Photographs and dirty words engraved on elevator doors”
Gavin de Leeds stayed at the hotel before taking a morning flight from Manchester Airport, but was not satisfied after seeing his room.
He wrote: “There were stains on the walls and ceiling, the third bed was a cot opposite a radiator. There was a big hair on the pillow, the TV didn’t work at all.
“In the bathroom, there is a scraper to wax in the bathroom look, the shower curtain is too 3 feet long, so you sit in the bathroom and get upset.
“There were 2 small hand towels, all for a triple room, and mold all over the window windowsill and a large steel hose on the ceiling and along the wall.
“There someone who threw a 3-door party and still at 3:30 in the morning when we left, we didn’t sleep at all. In the elevator there were filthy photographs and words engraved on the elevator doors when we entered the hotel.
“I probably wouldn’t go back there, sleep on a park bench, this hotel has a very low price, you need a general review or a dismantling and restart. “
“The moldyArray leaves. . and aluminum foil in the drawer”
The critic Balooba2018 surprised to discover that his room did not live up to expectations and described the hotel as ‘disgusting’.
They wrote: “This hotel is by far the worst hotel I have ever been to. The elevator to the ground was covered in graffiti. When we got to our room, it was horrible. It’s so old and old-fashioned. For some explanation of why there is aluminum foil in one of the drawers, I don’t need to know why . . .
“The carpet was a little there, the bathroom was dirty. I felt like I had to wipe my feet on the way out. The coffee cups were black and there was stagnant water in the kettle. None of the devices had pat-checked dates. “
“And for the most sensible, the sheets were moldy! The absolute misfortune of a hotel, I wonder how Britannia proposes it as an airport hotel. I’d have to stay at the airport. “
The Didsbury branch of the hotel chain achieved better results than its peers, with an average score of 3 on TripAdvisor reviews.
The online page reads: “The Britannia Country House hotel is the first asset in the Britannia hotel chain and has been at the heart of the company for over 40 years. “

However, Dan rated his stay a star, after booking the executive suite at the hotel. He said: Executive suite booked. Dirty room and has noticed bigger days. WiFi is a trash can. Arrangement. . the smell of hashish on the front of the hotel is unreal.
“People would wake us up at four in the morning sounding the horn of the taxi and banging on the door to get the attention of the non-existent receptionist. Come down in the morning to find out I hadn’t booked breakfast. Five per parking lot (which was intended to be loose on the website).
“No iron, TV hanging at an angle (use a bloody bubble level!) There what looked like a form of food packaging (like a potato chip envelope) was under the bed, God knows when!
“I told the receptionist and I couldn’t have been less interested if I’d told her about the bus schedule!Weary hotel, mediocre staff, all mediocre. “
“The room was very clean and comfortable. “
Bobby W was so disappointed in his room that he said he left after only an hour. He wrote: “Absolute sale with poor cleanliness as we left 60 minutes after our arrival. As soon as we entered, the main table staff was not very well educated or welcoming.
“Extremely old-fashioned, rather disgusting interiors, did we go to the first room to locate someone else there? So we went back to the front desk.
“Second room: the windows were wide open because they reeked of cigarettes, in fact, the whole hotel gives off an unpleasant smell everywhere, stains and locks of hair all over the floor of the room. Half-made bed with sheets that don’t fit, revealing holes in the mattress.
“The shower/bathtub faucet is damaged but controlled to make it work. I used the shower, whose credit is the cleanest thing in the room, but all of the above, too much and I couldn’t see myself sleeping there, so I went back to the front table with shots and asked to leave and a partial refund – say no because I used the shower.
“Disgusting, the worst position I’ve booked a mile from the country and I went home after a circle of party relatives in the domain (2 hours). “
That said, some recent travelers said on TripAdvisor that they were happy with their stay.
Hudds B stayed in March, which gave the hotel 3 stars. They wrote, “My friend and I stayed here one night before we go on vacation.
“We left the car for seven days, which was fine and we went back and forth to the airport and vice versa. What I didn’t like was having to walk past the citizens smoking some kind of drug outside the front door of the hotel. “, it wasn’t very nice.
“I told the receptionist and she looked at me so much to say yes, I know, but I’m not going to do anything. We bought the evening meal and breakfast the next day, which I have to say very mediocre. the rooms were very warm and comfortable. The only smart thing I can say about this hotel is that the bar costs were correct. I’m not coming back. “
Meanwhile, Christina B visited the hotel for a day at the spa, standing out entirely for the experience. She said: “My mom and I visited the spa last week and enjoyed the amenities of the spa and massages. The staff was very friendly, Sonia, Chiara and Barbara couldn’t do more for us and made the day special!Thank you, we’ll be back. “

“Human urine sensor”
Poppy H complimented the parking lot, was not so commendable about the hotel, it was not easy to refund it.
She wrote: “Walking down the aisles, it smelled like black and human urine. The game itself is surely disgusting. It smelled as soon as you walked in the door, urine back, stains on the carpet, flies on the window windowsill. “He wiped the sides with a rainy wipe and they were black.
“We went straight home to ask for a refund and went for the same price.
“We booked this hotel online because it seemed smart and for its value as it was only one night as we went from Devon to a funeral from a circle of family members. Do not take your time and do not book this hotel online. “
“There’s poop in the bathroom. “
Lynnylala booked a room at the Britannia Airport Hotel for a family circle, but I wasn’t impressed.
She wrote: “I stayed here last night with my daughter and two grandchildren, I wouldn’t propose that they sell very old-fashioned and dirty, the food was disgusting and the local food staff had no way of knowing everything there, poop in the bathroom. and when I complained, the receptionist told me . . . “I’m alone, can’t you cover it with a shower head?”
