Scottish coach Steve Clarke has assured Hearts players Craig Gordon and Steven Naismith that they can still earn a spot on their team, even if they are out today.

Clarke has appointed a 24-man team for next month’s League of Nations organization matches opposed to Israel and the Czech Republic without deciding on Tynecastle Park.

The goalkeeper on loan from Livingston, Robby McCrorie, and Queens Park Rangers forward Lyndon Dykes won their first orders, with Gordon and Naismith involved.

Hearts have been controversially relegated over the summer and will start playing competitive matches until October, so their players are short of games.

Clarke insisted that Gordon and Naismith were still on their minds and that they could return to their next team for October matches, adding the important semi-final of the European Championship play-off that also opposes Israel.

“They [Hearts] have Steven and Craig Gordon, who were also there with the aim of looking to get on the foreign team,” the national coach said.

“You may have chosen them, but they are highly experienced players who, if they signed up for the next team, will be able to participate at any time.

“It’s not that they’re young and want to be informed about the strings of foreign football. They have a lot of matches between them.

“I have no worries. If I have to do one of those two in the future, it’s no big deal.”

Clarke also overlooked the Ryan Fraser winger, recalling Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney and Liam Cooper.
