Tottenham are the latest to defeat PSV Eindhoven’s Steven Bergwijn.
The 22-year-old has been left out of PSV’s squad for this evening’s game against FC Twente after Spurs lodged a bid believed to be in the region of £30million.
Sources in the Netherlands expect the deal to close within the next 48 hours.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho and chairman Daniel Levy met with Bergwijn’s advisers last week.
Bergwijn, who is also being watched through Leicester, has a clause in his contract that says he will leave for £30m this summer.
He was on the verge of joining Sevilla last year, but the deal fell through when the Spanish club failed to make the acquisition.
Now he looks destined for the Premier League.
Mourinho likes the versatility of Bergwijn. The 22-year-old can play in the top three and has scored six goals this season.
Bergwijn began his career with Ajax but moved from Amsterdam to Eindhoven when PSV offered him an escape route following a bust-up with a youth coach.
PSV are bracing for a backlash from fans who consider the winger to be their club’s most productive player.
Bergwijn, who has been capped seven times for his country by Ronald Koeman, has won three Eredivisie titles with PSV.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan coach Giuseppe Marotta has shown that Christian Eriksen’s move to the Italian giants will be imminent.
Speaking after Inter’s 1-1 draw with Cagliari on Sunday, he said: “Eriksen? We’re not hiding, we’ve been negotiating with Tottenham for some time now.
“I am optimistic, I hope to conclude as soon as possible. I am sure that this can be resolved in the coming days. “
