Steven Gerrard insists Aston Villa’s owners will have him in the move window amid rumours that Philippe Coutinho could sign for Arsenal.
Villa has the option to sign Coutinho, 29, for £33m this summer. The Brazilian has returned to form since he joined Gerrard on loan from Barcelona in January, scoring 4 goals and providing 3 assists in 11 Premier League appearances.
While Coutinho’s moving fees are affordable, his salary may just be an issue. He would earn £480,000 per week, and Barcelona would pay the maximum of his salary. Coutinho’s deal runs until 2023 and he will have to settle for a massive pay cut to sign up for Villa permanently.
If Villa can’t meet the demands of the game creator, Arsenal can step in. The Gunners would be watching his scenario and while they would possibly not pay him £480,000 a week either, they may only offer him a salary higher than Villa’s. and European football.
Arsenal are recently fifth in the Premier League, tied on points with fourth-placed Tottenham with two games to go. Mikel Arteta’s side can return to the fourth highest with a point in front of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
