Strange images of a room, a deserted pool with a hidden story

Incredible photographs have revealed how an old deserted pool was supposedly used as a World War II air shelter.

Strange snapshots of cottage homes in Fazakerley show the underside scenario that other people are believed to have from German airstrikes.

Amateur photographer Terry O’Callaghan captured the pool renovation for more than 12 months and presented an exclusive look at the development.

The pool is on the former site of Cottage Homes, a children’s house that welcomed thousands of young people from March 27, 1889.

Composed of a total of 24 cottages divided into houses for boys and girls, the huts operated the West Derby Union until the last boy left in 1964.

After becoming Newhall Hostels for nearly 20 years, followed by attention and social services, the houses fell into a skinny service.

The pool was used through the youngsters, with reports that Liverpool FC founder John Houlding opened the baths and jumped into the water with the youth in 1890.

Since then it has undergone dramatic changes, when Next Big Thing Developments took on the task of households.

Terry said, “I’m just an amateur photographer, but the explanation for why I was attracted there is that I was betting there in 1977. I used to ride a motorcycle there and I liked the job and the history of the job.

“There are so many stories derived from the history of the pool. Liverpool Club founder John Houlding jumped into the pool with the kids.

“There are rumors that this is an anti-aircraft shelter.

“There are seven rooms [downstairs], I think it’s to distribute the weight of the pool and the water.

“But an older man told me it was an anti-aircraft shelter. It was never built in particular as an anti-aircraft shelter, it was built before the war. But it’s the best position for six hundred children to stay safe. “

“There were also two Anderson shelters on site, the houses.

“We are probably the first to go out in God knows how many years. He had a clever impression, it’s a privilege to step back and see Victorian work.

“The transformation is astonishing, honestly. “
