Atletico Madrid have signed Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.
The English midfielder joined the west London club at the age of 8 and made 95 appearances after his retirement in 2022, but is now worth £33. 7m after he was deemed surplus for the wishes of new manager Enzo Maresca.
Maresca reportedly told Gallagher that he would play a supporting role in the Italian’s first season in the Stamford Bridge dugout, despite the 24-year-old captaining the team in several events last year.
Arsenal are expected to make around £2m after former academy graduate Mark McGuinness joined Luton Town from Cardiff.
McGuinness left Arsenal in 2021 for Cardiff after spending 10 years at the Gunners’ academy.
That agreement included a resale clause, which was intended to account for 30% of any profit Cardiff made from the sale of McGuinness.
Arsenal are now set to reap the rewards after McGuinness finalized a £10million move to Luton this week.
The Gunners are reportedly saving around £2m from the centre-back’s move, which would improve their finances.

Fulham have agreed a £27million deal to sign Joachim Andersen from Crystal Palace.
Andersen, who spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Fulham from Lyon, is now close to finalising his terms before passing a medical.
Fulham fell through with a £20m offer earlier this month but remained in talks with Palace and a breakthrough was made in negotiations last night.
Palace have already started looking for replacements for Andersen, with Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix among their targets.
