(Reuters) – New York Major League Club Red Bulls named Gerhard Struber as their new coach on Tuesday after leaving his position at the English League (second division) club at Barnsley.
The Red Bulls have known Struber as their number one target to succeed Chris Armas, who fired last month.
The MLS paid Barnsley an undisclosed payment to release Struber from his contract, which expires next year.
“The challenge of running in MLS makes me proud and motivates me greatly for a wonderful opportunity,” Struber said in a https://www. newyorkredbulls. com/post/2020/10/06/new-york-red-bulls-name-gerhard-struber-head coach. “We need to pursue very ambitious goals in combination and expand regularly. “
The 43-year-old Austrian led Barnsley to protection in the championship last season with off-time victories over Nottingham Forest and Brentford in the last two games.
Struber also controlled Liefering, an Austrian club at the time, and worked with the young people of RB Salzburg.
The Red Bulls are seventh in the East Conference.
