The 43-year-old has earned praise for orchestrating Barnsley’s escape from relegation last season, however, his team had earned a point from his first four league games this season.
Struber, who was appointed last November, recently questioned the ambition of the Barnsley homeowners after it emerged that a formal technique for him had come from the United States.
And the Austrian’s resolution in the United States announced on the Red Bulls’ official online website on Tuesday, with an unclosed sum, believed to be in the order of $2. 36 million (1. 82 million pounds), to be paid to Barnsley.
“I look forward to meeting my new team, I hope it’s too soon,” said Struber, who is waiting to receive his paint visa in the United States.
“We need to pursue very ambitious goals in combination and expand regularly. The challenge of running in the MLS makes me proud and motivates me enormously to have a wonderful opportunity. “
Struber, who worked in roles with Red Bull-backed Salzburg for a decade, has become the first coach in the league to leave his post in the 2020-2021 campaign.
One of Barnsley said: “While the club is incredibly disappointed to lose Struber, the New York Red Bulls have complied with a significant contractual release clause after several European clubs have expressed interest.
“Gerhard’s close ties to Red Bull’s circle of relatives nevertheless made the resolution his place. “
