MADRID (AP) – Luis Suarez continued his promising debut for Atletico Madrid with disappointing functionality on his first outing on Wednesday.
Three days after scoring two goals and putting another on the bench in about 20 minutes of Atlético’s 6–1 win over Granada, Suarez fought in the team’s 0-0 draw with the ascended Huesca.
The former Barcelona player with young Portuguese striker Joel Felix, however, the duo failed to provoke the attack of Diego Simeone.
The Uruguayan striker had the most productive possibility of the match after a very productive pass of Felix in the 59th minute, but failed to overtake goalkeeper Andrés Fernández in the area and nevertheless saw his shot blocked.
Suarez replaced Diego Costa less than 3 minutes after the incident, but the Brazil-born striker couldn’t do much in the lead either. Atletico pushed towards the end but did not take advantage of some smart opportunities from inside the area.
Huesca, back in the top flight after a year in the moment division, on the hunt for their first win of the season after two draws and one loss, then went to Elche, another promoted club.
The protective champion, Real Madrid, will later receive Valladolid without a win to take a look to win his post in a row after opening with a draw.
Barcelona undefeated to celta de Vigo on Thursday.
Atletico and Barcelona have had their first two postponed for their participation in the Champions League in August.

Villarreal recovered from a 4-0 loss in Barcelona with a 3–1 home win over Alavés.
Paco Alcicer opened the scoring in the 13th minute and sealed the victory in ’67. Gerard Moreno changed his penalty in the 45th minute after Alavés tied for Dgar Méndez in the 36th.
Alavés continues to win after 4 days. Villarreal had a draw and a win before the defeat to Barcelona at Camp Nou.
