BBC Sport pundit Glenn Murray criticised Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson for a missed effort in the Carabao Cup encounter with Newcastle United.
The Chelsea striker continues to divide opinion following his £32 million move to Stamford Bridge from Villarreal in July.
Jackson scored his seventh goal in 16 Premier League appearances when he headed home in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend.
However, the 22-year-old has also received criticism for missing numerous opportunities in front of goal for the Blues.
In Tuesday night’s quarter-finals at Stamford Bridge, Jackson missed a wonderful goal in the 55th minute of the match, which would have restored parity for Chelsea.
He picked up Armando Broja’s out, took an throw-in and fired low from the rotation that went in front of the post.
Murray, commentating on BBC Radio Five Live, BBC Sport’s online page, noted Jackson’s framing language and commented on the missed opportunity.
“Nicolas Jackson has his hands on his head because he knows it’s an excellent opportunity, which sums up his Chelsea career,” Murray said.
Jackson left Chelsea in the 69th minute. Mauricio Pochettino replaced him with Christopher Nkunku, who made his long-awaited debut from injury.
The Blues trailed from the 16th minute after Callum Wilson took advantage of a mistake by Benoit Badiashile to drive home with the outside of his boot.
However, Chelsea equalised in second-half stoppage time through Mykhaylo Mudryk, who took advantage of a poor header from Kieran Trippier to head past Martin Dubravka.
Les Bleus then triumphed on penalties and reached the semi-finals of the competition.
