West Ham gained a major boost in his quest for central defense when Napoli opened the door for the sale of Nikola Maksimovic, Football Insider learned.
The Hammers have presented a new offer of more than 20 million pounds for the Serbs in the final turn of their quest for the defender of the summer.
A recruiting source told Football Insider that West Ham had been encouraged through Napoli to succeed in an agreement close to that brand.
The Italian club is in a position to get rid of Maksimovic, as it will pressure West Ham to pay a higher component of the prepayment.

He’s out of contract with the Serie A giants next summer and attempts to make his contract bigger have failed.
Maksimovic has spent the last four years at Napoli after signing for Turin in 2017 for around 19 million pounds after a season on loan.
He has played 73 times for Napoli and has formed a strong partnership in the more than two seasons with Kalidou Koulibaly.
West Ham is executing several central defence goals as they hope to bring back at least one until next Monday’s deadline.
Following the collapse of the agreements with Burnley’s James Tarkowski and St Etienne’s Wesley Fofana, the Hammers now have a deal for Maksimovic.
