Ang Postecoglou has shown that Pape Matar Sar did not travel with the team to Germany for our UEFA Europa League MD7 match against Hoffenheim after not being able to recover from a blow that suffered against Everton on Sunday.
The midfielder has only missed one game for us in this crusade (our Carabao Cup semi-final win over Liverpool, for which he was suspended), but is now fit to leave our meeting with the Bundesliga side after take a break from training. .
This will be the second game he will miss in our last 50 games.
Speaking to us at PreZero Arena in Sinsheim, Ange reported: “Pape was a bit sore after the weekend, he took a knock, tried to train today but it didn’t work out, so he didn’t travel. We’ve got Rodrigo Bentancur back, so they are the only two changes (from Everton).”
When asked about Pape’s pre-match press conference, Ange added: “Pape has a slight bump from the weekend, so he’s out. He tried to work out (today) but is still a little sore from the weekend. We hope that this is not the case. Anything that keeps him out for too long, he has a chance for the weekend, but the turnaround was too quick.
Pape is one of 14 players unavailable for the clash opposite Hoffenheim with Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Yves Bissouma, Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson, Dominic Soledke and Werner de Timo also governed. Reguilon, Antonin Kinsky and Yang Min-Hyeok are eligible.
