The Argentinian forward has completed the deal with his boyhood favourites Boca Juniors.
Tevez helped Boca seal his Argentine name in March.
The striker admitted that the only club he would return to would be England’s West Ham, having helped him escape relegation in 2007.
His contract with Boca Juniors, based in Buenos Aires, ended in June.
But he is believed to have signed a new contract for a season.
Tevez also connected the former Corinthian club with a move.
The forward had returned to Boca for a third spell after a disastrous transfer to Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua in 2017 on a £650,000-a-week deal.
Tévez, who is an international with Argentina, signed for United in 2007 and spent two years there, winning the Champions League in 2008 and the Premier League in 2008 and 2009.
But the Argentine’s ultimate success at the Prem came here in his first two seasons at Man City.
Tevez scored 47 goals between 2009 and 2012 and captained his team to win the FA Cup final against Stoke in 2011.
He had indicated he would stay at Boca to have another shot at South America’s version of the Champions League.
He said last month: “I’m going to stay in Boca, I need a chance at the Liberators.”
