“We didn’t have a formal meeting of district leaders, but we developed an interim schedule with our other district teams,” Cunningham said. “They allowed us to go home, which is the smart part. “

The school district made headlines state-round on August 10 when it was the first Texas school to cancel its football season in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ben Bolt took a 180-degree turn after the Texas Education Agency demanded that the school district offer face-to-face tuition features in addition to its virtual school. Originally, the community planned to remain virtual for the first nine weeks of the season.

The language originally indicated that the district would not allow extracurricular activities until the school was offered in person. When Ben Bolt began proposing this option, the school board revised the resolution to cancel football and volleyball and approved the reinstallation on Tuesday.

“Things changed when the AME said you had to have some kind of face-to-face school on campus,” Cunningham said. “Our council’s initial resolution that we would not participate in sports until the youth were back on campus. young people returning to campus, and that’s why we ask them to review the resolution.

“The percentage of COVID-19 cases in the county has continuously decreased and has remained stable, which gave us this question. “
