The Patriots’ return to Super Bowl LI for the Falcons proved expensive for Charles Barkley.
The former NBA All-Star revealed Wednesday on “The Dan Patrick Show” that he lost $100,000 when New England recovered from an 28-3 deficit to beat Atlanta 34-28 on February 5, 2017.
“The Atlanta Falcons, what they did at the Super Bowl and what they did against the (Dallas) Cowboys (in the third week) were two of the stranglers in the history of civilization,” Barkley said.
Barkley, as the Falcons’ biggest fan, assumed Atlanta had it all under in Super Bowl LI, until Tom Brady led New England to an unlikely victory at NRG Stadium in Houston.
From there, all of Barkley can simply drink, even more than it has ever been.
“No, they just hit me drunk,” Barkley said when Dan Patrick asked him if he was gone in the part of the moment when New England responded. “That’s what happens with the game: you drink when you’re going to win, but you drink more when you’re going to lose. “
That’s to say that some in Atlanta are probably still drinking after the Falcons’ crushing loss on football’s biggest stage.
