The Texas Longhorns would probably have discovered their long-term quarterback on Friday when 2022 rookie Quinn Ewers entered the program.
Ewers, from Southlake, Texas, announced his resolve to play for the Longhorns on Twitter:

According to the 247Sports composite rating, Ewers is a 5-star professional-style quarterback and the ranked player in the 2022 recruiting class.
In a November 2019 selection report for 247Sports, Gabe Brooks presented this Ewers game:
“Prototype box for aspiring elite field marshal. Good height with a thin and athletic structure that will maintain more volume. Dynamic and herbal game maker in quarterback position. Demonstrates an impressive ability to stand and throw in your pocket, plus wonderful program instincts. Varies arm angles as needed. A mass production at the time of year for Texas 6A perpetual force.”
Brooks also noted that Ewers threw forty-five touchdowns with three interceptions at the time of last year “against an exceptional festival relative to the school’s top level.”
Assuming Ewers’ recruitment qualification is not replaced in the next two years, he will be the highest-rated player to enroll in the Longhorns since Tom Herman took over as head coach in November 2016.
Herman did a wonderful job of recruiting for Texas. The program has landed in the 10 most sensitive ratings of the 247Sports team every year since 2018.
