The £52m duo will be dropped from Man City’s Premier League squad after the January move window.

Manchester City will be removing two players from their Premier League squad this month now the January transfer window has ended.

As you’d expect with Pep Guardiola, January has been a pretty quiet month in terms of arrivals. City have to bring in Claudio Echeverri from River Plate, but he will remain on loan at the Argentine club for the remainder of 2024.

Departures have been more likely this winter and two major ones have been confirmed. First, backup goalkeeper Zack Steffen permanently moved to MLS club Colorado Rapids after a frustrating spell with the Blues.

Steffen had been loaned to Middlesbrough last season after failing to impress last year when Ederson was not in the team. The second outing came towards the end of the window when Kalvin Phillips left City on loan.

The former Leeds United man failed to break into the first team often enough with Rodri comfortably Guardiola’s preferred starter in defensive midfield. The Blues have agreed to loan the England international to West Ham but a deal could not be brokered to make the move permanent in the summer.

These two decisions mean City will have two fewer players when they present their team to the Premier League this month. According to MEN Sport’s calculations, 18 players will now be registered for the second part of the season, seven of the allowed limit of 25 players.

Players such as Josko Gvardiol, Oscar Bobb and Rico Lewis are included as they qualify as under-21 players. With that in mind, that’s how we expect City to treat their squad.
