New England Patriots players won’t get advantages from pre-season games this season. This means that those who turn out to deserve a position on the 53-player list or a position in the starting lineup will have to do so in the education camp.
With seven internships open in the books and less than two weeks before Cup Day, here are 10 players who helped their reasons in the education chart and seven who took steps in the direction:
WINNERS Cam Newton, Quarterback The Patriots Quarterback Festival was genuine at the beginning of the camp, but Newton appears to have taken a dominant advantage over Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. With a reported hip injury restricting Stidham’s activity in recent workouts, Newton has noticed the percentage of lion trials and continues to look comfortable on the New England offensive.
Ball carrier Damien Harris After seeing the group a bit as a rookie, Harris now seems to be the favorite to open the season as a New England leader. The Alabama product worked hard at the camp and also shone as a pass receiver. Veteran Rex Burkhead also looks good.
Josh Uche, supporter If there’s any sign last week, the Patriots will put a lot on Uche’s plate this season. The second-round pick selection of the draft is very concerned in defence and may only be a first-day contributor. He scored two possible catches in Monday’s high-intensity practice.
Kyle Dugger, deep transition from Division II to the NFL has not been overwhelming for Dugger. He highlighted his versatility and ability to play and applauded through Devin McCourty and Bill Belichick. New England’s first pick will be in the team with veterans Adrian Phillips and Terrence Brooks for Patrick Chung’s vacant starting position, but first he’ll have to be healthy because he’s been limited in each of the last three practices.
Gunner Olszewski, open receiver Last year’s greatest educational camp wonder, Olszewski took a significant step forward this year. Julian Edelman camp. Olszewski is on track to be at least New England’s top productive kick returner this season and may also play a more vital offensive role. His compatriot Devin Ross also made the most of his camp representatives.
Devin Asiasi, the Asiai wing and his other third-round pick, Dalton Keene, showed their potential this summer, but the former has gained more attention, running with Patriots quarterbacks and a small variety of established pass receivers (Edelman, Mohamed Sanu, James Blanc) during the team’s special periods. While Ryan Izzo also enjoyed a strong camp, Asiasi has a valid chance of opening the season as New England’s tight number one.
Jermaine Eluemunor, offensive lineman A reserve guard rarely used last season, Eluemunor now seems the most productive candidate to take the right shot in the place occupied by Marcus Cannon.
Hjalte Froholdt, offensive lineman A flexible internal lineman, Froholdt turns out to be the first selection for the old role of Ted Karras (guard/rescue center). He went to camp after spending his entire rookie season on the injured reserve.
Myles Bryant, corner, is Bryant the Patriots’ newest undrafted corner jewel? It’s too early to tell, but Washington’s product has worked a lot. His Monday interception opposed Newton in his third camp, and added several pass breaks. Something that plays against Bryant: he is vying for a place in the innermost positions organization in New England. The same goes for the recent announcement of Michael Jackson, who also showed remarkable ball skills.
Cassh Maluia, supporter Interceptions, forced escapades, stops in the line of purpose: Maluia was a game creator at his first Patriots educational camp. The intellectual aspect of the sixth-round variety adjustment wants to work, according to coach Jerod Mayo, however, will be a serious contender for a place on the list assuming that the injury he suffered on Monday, a stinger, is not serious. Sophomore Terez Hall, who was also injured in Monday’s practice, also stood out positively.
Field marshal Jarrett Stidham, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, and quarterback coach Jedd Fisch said Stidham’s injury is not a long-term concern. Evil, however, would possibly already be done. Stidham has been very limited in the last three practices and has not noticed an equivalent percentage of representatives since last Wednesday. At this point, his chances of overtaking Newton seem slim.
Sony Michel, the michel racer, who is recovering from an off-season foot operation, is on the list of physical disabilities because he has not yet practiced. Several reports have warned that his injury may simply knock him out in the normal season, so it may take some time before we see last year’s Patriots taking the leader to the field. Veteran newcomer Lamar Miller also remains on PUP.
Meyers’ open receiver, Jakobi Meyers, thrived in his first Patriots education camp and showed promise as an undrafted rookie last season, but was largely invisible this summer. He’s also dealing with an injury that has prevented him from exercising as a team. Prospects Olszewski, Ross and Damiere Byrd outperformed Meyers at the camp.
Jeff Thomas, open receiver: It’s still early, yet we haven’t noticed much of the Patriots’ intriguing top undrafted loose agent. Thomas has missed more than a portion of New England training to date and has been limited in the few workouts he has attended.
Justin Rohrwasser, kicker Rohrwasser didn’t kick much in the camp, and when he did, it wasn’t pretty. The Patriots brought back veteran Nick Folk this week to compete with the fifth-round pick, which wouldn’t be 100 percent healthy.
Yodny Cajuste, an offensive version of Cajuste, did not participate in a single practice as a Patriots rookie last season, and is having trouble staying in the box at this time of year. Array And when it was active, it looked rusty. Don’t expect Cajuste to be in the Combo for the right start, at least at the start of the season.
Beau Allen, defensive take We haven’t noticed Allen’s exercise since the Patriots opened the exercise field to reporters not hired by the team last Monday. While healthy, he plans to start alongside Lawrence Guy, but his absence has created opportunities for young players like Byron Cowart and Bill Murray.
