The “trial of the century” will begin on September 16 for Manchester City. Accused of 115 violations of Premier League and UEFA rules over the past 14 seasons, the English club is at great risk. According to ESPN, the trial is expected to last several months and several violations of monetary fair play established through UEFA have been observed.
The charges against the Citizens include 54 counts of failing to provide accurate information, 35 counts of failing to cooperate with Premier League investigations, 14 counts of failing to provide accurate information about the main points of payments to players and coaches, seven counts of violating the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, and five counts of breaching UEFA regulations. If found guilty, the Manchester club could face sanctions up to and including relegation.
