An FC Barcelona star has an “important problem” in the first costume of the team, according to El Nacional, which quotes anonymous sources.
Boosting La Masia product Gavi from relative obscurity to the senior team in 2021 was one of the major successes in Ronald Koeman’s reign ahead of the club legend being fired and replaced by Xavi Hernandez a year later.
Bajo Xavi, Gavi won the Golden Boy trophy, according to which this week assigned to Lamine Yamal is the most productive player in Europe under 21 years.
He also undisputed the starting spot under the former No. 6 from which he inherited the shirt, with Xavi once describing him as “the soul” of his team as well as a “heart with legs”.
Unfortunately those comments had to be made in sadness when an ACL injury picked up on international duty for Spain sidelined Gavi for almost a year in mid-November 2023.
The costly knock meant he missed the rest of Barca’s trophyless season as a consequence, in addition to La Roja’s winning Euro 2024 campaign in Germany this summer.
Gavi finally made his return to the pitch against fellow Andalusians Sevilla in a 5-1 win in Montjuic as October drew to a close.
Yet rather than gradually work his way into Flick’s starting XI, he has found himself to be a regular substitute alongside Frenkie de Jong, who is likewise being kept out of the side by the Marc Casado and Pedri.
El Nacional reports that Gavi has a “headache” and a “major problem” in the locker room.
Discounted with the role he has under Flick, who obviously likes the 20-year-old intelligently that his potential variety options don’t speak to that, Gavi believes he wants continuity to regain his confidence and once he returns without fear.
Gavi is not satisfied with a secondary role and will have a long career at Barça if things continue as they are currently.
In the past, the 20-year-old hasn’t been short of interest from the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Liverpool to name a few potential suitors, yet he turned them down to sign a new contract at Barca until mid-2026.
