The former Premier League Jelle Van Damme star exchanged pedal opposite releases through a professional cyclist.
The Belgian defender spent two years in Southampton’s books, making appearances.
Van Damme, 41, played six times for the Wolves at the end of 2010, scoring once.
He has won 31 times across his country, his other clubs coming with Ajax, Anderlecht, Standard Liege and LA Galaxy. He retired in 2020.
Since then, Van Damme has built his amateur interest in cycling into the professional grades, along with Belgian superstar Greg Van Avermaet.
And he plans to compete in a series of events, including Unbound – the World Cup of gravel cycling – in the US later this year.
He said: “If I can have my time again, I would carry out a career cyclist, despite everything I experienced in football.
“I think I would succeed given my mindset and personality. I always compare myself to [Belgian pro] Tim Declercq.
“I am not someone who seeks to win the races, but a good” servant “who is helping my teammates to succeed in the most productive imaginable finish.
“My hobby for the game has grown. I took a coach, and now I have complete sponsorship.
