The merchandise support places fireplace to the Manchester City stadium before the Champions League match

A merchandise stand caught fire outside Manchester City’s stadium ahead of a Champions League game tonight.

An area near the ground was evacuated and video online showed flames and smoke coming from the kiosk, which is located near the players’ entrance.

The chimney began at a time before 6 p. m. , near where the team is due to enter the Etihad Stadium around 6:30 p. m.

Firefighters were in the place in a few minutes and the fireplace has already been controlled.

The fire broke out near the entrance to the Colin Bell West Stand.

Fans had accumulated nearby for an entertainment exhibition prior to the match that included interviews on stage with the new firm of Manchester City, Omar Marmous, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov.

At the time of the fire, the exhibition already had with the players of Rebecca Knaak and Aemu Oyama on stage.

The event was suspended as flames took hold of the stand and stewards moved fans away before fire crews arrived on the scene.

At 6.22pm, it was announced the stadium was open and fans could enter, but three entrance gates inside the cordoned-off area near the scene of the blaze were still shut.

The match kicked off on time at 8pm.

City Face Belgian Side Club Brugge, while the new phase of the League of the Champions League reaches its conclusion tonight.

City, who are 25th in the standings, must win the game to make the knockout play-offs.

The rest of the pre-match screen was canceled.

One of the club said: “Manchester City FC can verify that there was a chimney in one of the outdoor products kiosks, located near the front to the Colin Bell West stand.

“Emergency services are present at the scene and the fire has now been extinguished.

“The safety of all participants tonight is our absolute priority, and as such, all planned occasions for the West Stand reception have been cancelled, the welcome occasion for new players and the first arrival via TeamArray

“All tickets are open, and enthusiasts can around the Etihad stadium as usual. Thank you for your cooperation.

“We can verify that the adjustment of tonight will begin at 8 p. m. as it was originally planned. We are going on to welcome everyone at the Etihad stadium for tonight. “
