A new ‘superclub’ has been formed following the formal ratification of the proposed merger between Cranbourne Turf Club and Pakenham Racing Club.
The two clubs held their respective annual general assemblies on Monday evening and the special resolutions were “passed by an overwhelming majority”, paving the way for the creation of Cranbourne Pakenham Racing Club.
“We congratulate the members of Cranbourne Turf Club and Pakenham Racing Club for approving this merger,” Racing Victoria CEO Andrew Jones.
“The combined club offers its members two trails for the value of one. Coaches can achieve a long-term in which they will be offered more amenities and features.
“And club leaders can generate economies of scale in the racing, coaching, visitor services, business operations, finance, management, gaming and real estate spaces.

“This is an historic moment for Victorian racing and one that solidifies Melbourne’s south-east super club as a racing and training powerhouse.”

Current CTC chief executive Neil Bainbridge will lead the new entity while outgoing PRC chief executive Blair Odgers has elected to pursue a new opportunity outside the racing industry.
Sean Clarkson will be the president.
The new club will conduct over 60 meetings annually across three tracks – Cranbourne, Pakenham turf and Pakenham synthetic – which can all host night racing.
More than 1,500 horses will be trained at the club’s facility, representing approximately 30 per cent of all horses in Victoria.
