It is the first time since 1972 that all Ohio groups were eligible for the playoffs instead of employing the CP problem formula or what is commonly referred to as Harbin CP problems.
The playoff replacement was due to the normal season shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All state finals must be completed until November 21, according to OHSAA.
Mahón proposed the summer to move the season to the spring of 2021 with such uncertainty in July and August.

Schools withdrawn from OHSAA playoffs or who have selected not to participate in the playoffs will have the opportunity to schedule more normal season competitions until November 14, with a maximum of 10 normal season competitions allowed.
