With what promises to be a busy schedule of sporting action over the coming weeks, it’s simple that when we’re all glued to our seats (if we’re lucky enough to have tickets) or on our screens (if streaming online), while all the athletes They eagerly await their time to shine on the calendar.

But where do they spend all this tempting time? Well, we’ve all heard of the Olympic Village, but since it’s exclusively for the competition and its coaches, the purpose-built complex in the host city maintains an air of mystery. Here you will find everything we know about the Paris 2024 site.

All those 14,250 athletes, their coaches and Games officials have to sleep somewhere. It’s not uncommon for the host city to build a huge residential complex to house them all.

The “village” itself is technically built in 3 municipalities north of Paris: Saint-Ouen, Saint-Denis and L’Ile-Saint-Denis. The site was once a piece of land intended for commercial parks and businesses, and is huge at around 330,000 square meters.

We’ve all heard of the breakfast of champions, but the beds?Well, they’re a little more humble than you might think. When athletes arrive in Paris for the start of the Games, many share TikToks from their accommodation, adding cardboard. Beds.

Stronger than it looks, huh?

The Village exists to house only athletes, who must arrive five days before the start of the Games and leave two days after the end of their game or if they are eliminated. It’s unclear if athletes should stay there, but for reasons of safety, privacy, and the fact that it’s free, why wouldn’t they?

Investing all that time and money in building an Olympic Village would be a waste if it were only used for the Games, but fortunately, cities tend to continue with them after the Closing Ceremony.

According to the Olympic Games website, the Parisian Village will subsequently house 6,000 citizens and employ around 6,000 people, spread across apartments with department stores, workplaces, public services and green spaces. Specifically, 2,500 new homes will be built, a student accommodation block, a hotel, a three-hectare park and other smaller gardens, 12,000 square meters of offices and municipal offices and 3,200 square meters of department stores.
