Fabio Silva has been with a young Cristiano Ronaldo, and Liverpool can have an advantage if he needs to land the Porto prodigy.
The 18-year-old made his Porto debut less than a month after his birthday and, like many young Portuguese players, was compared to Ronaldo.
When he was only 15 years old, Sporting Lisbon legend Manuel Fernandes said of Silva: “When Cristiano Ronaldo was 17, he played as a centre forward for Sporting’s youth teams.I’ve noticed him doing things that I now see a guy from FC Porto..»
The teenager is expected to generate a lot of long-term interest and Porto has already sought to tie him up with a 120 million euro termination clause.
After a season with Porto B, helping them win the league title, Silva is in a position to return to the first team next season and there is no indication that he is in a position to move.
But when the time comes for him to control himself at a higher level, Liverpool may have a primary play advantage.
This is Vitor Matos, The current elite progression coach from Liverpool, worked with Silva on his youth and kept in touch with the teenager.
And he has already demonstrated his traction force by convincing Silva to leave Benfica to return to Porto as a young academy.
José Tavares, who held a senior position with Matos at the Porto Academy, told the Blood Red Podcast: “Vitor has spent so many years here and knows the educational method because he is one of the experts we had.
“He’s a wonderful human being, a wonderful character and a wonderful guy.His determination towards the players takes him away from the coaches.”
“The bond he had with some of the players was brilliant. When I took over as technical director of FC Porto, one of the players who left our academy was Fabio Silva.
“The head coach of Vitor Fabio when he was 12 years old and kept in touch with Fabio.Being friends with Vitor, he said ‘hey, José, I think Fabio is a little disappointed with Benfica, and maybe he needs to move.’
“He was the first guy to talk to me, which made me think we could save him and bring him back. For what? Because you can create these kinds of player dating.
“Vitor has proven value on the court as a coach who has leadership skills, is competent and has a wonderful connection with the players.”
