After a strong pre-season in Sweden in which the Ghirls were tested in European teams, they return to domestic action for the first time since winner Amy Gallacher won the name against Hibs in May, the day Amy led the Rangers to tears!
For the first time in history, there will be a flag day in the Scottish Women’s Array. Celtic captain Kelly Clark, along with legend Rose Reilly, will unfurl the flag in front of Celtic fans when the season officially begins.
Last season, when we played Dundee United, we beat them 9-0 at Excelsior and 2-0 away.
Today’s visitors averaged two goals per game in the 23/24 season, achieving only 4 wins and 3 draws in the campaign. Dundee United averaged less ownership than their contending teams and kept a clean sheet in just 6% of their games.

Speaking to the media, Elena Sadiku, ahead of today’s Celtic Star match, said: “I am very excited to go, the women will get what they deserve and then we will start the season well, to do what they deserve we are smart , and that is playing very intelligent football.
“Women know that we have things that we want to be aware of and things that we want to exploit, but the greatest concentration will be us. Let us always be us. And that’s something we talked about today as well because Celtic: the way we play is to dominate. And that’s all we’re going to enjoy in each and every one of the attacks that await us.
During the pre-match press conference, Elena showed that 4 players were injured lately: Kit Loferski, Natalie Ross, Amy Richardson and Chloe Logan. This explains why Natalie was not in Sweden and she was able to speak to The Celtic Star last week when we attended the official launch of the new season of SWPL1.
I was hoping to see Amy Richardson get some minutes, as she’s a player that I think is very promising and will end up being a player, but it looks like we’re going to have to wait a little longer to see her. Play competitive football with a Celtic shirt.
Kit Loferski
Kit Loferski was suspicious when he travelled to Sweden with the team, but he did not appear in either game. It’s very important that Kit has full compatibility, as he’s a primary weapon for Celtic with that speed and finishing power, so starting the season injured is a concern.
I hope Chloe Logan recovers temporarily as she is a very team choice.
Four injuries at the beginning of the season are frustrating, but Celtic have a strong team. Of course, Elena wouldn’t prefer any of them, but I hope they all do quickly.
Kelly Clark also spoke to the media ahead of today’s clash. The Celtic captain told The Celtic Star: “I can’t wait to see the game. It almost feels like an extended birthday party. “I’m very proud that we’re the first to have a Flag Day, as we call it here. And I can’t wait to get back out of Celtic Park whenever that is. I feel like it’s a long birthday party with the fans, which is important.
“I’m more proud every season to lead the team. In the last 4 or five years, since we became professionals, we have led the team more and more powerful every year, and then this year leading them as champions is something I probably won’t I waited until a couple of years ago. It is a huge honor, I have no words to describe it.
“I say it all the time, but in my Celtic career I’ve noticed that men do it a lot. I’ve probably been to almost every single Flag Day, the one I just went to is probably one of the first ones to the ones I’ve attended. I’ve seen them do it many times, I’ve seen them lift trophies many times, and to do it for this club, I’m looking forward to it.
Abbie Hendry will referee this match, with Nathan Deane and Daniel Boyle appointed as assistant referees. No fourth official has been appointed and, of course, the SWPL is still the VAR.
It’s the start of lunchtime for Flag Day in Paradise with Celtic vs Dundee United starting at 1pm.

It’s the first game of the season and we have no problem beating a team we beat 9-0 last season.
Dundee United have to have a good reputation because they are a team in their era, but I think the challenge Celtic pose at the moment is too big for them to take on. Here’s the news from the Dundee United team. . .
